SRINAGAR, Apr 17: Knowing well that they failed to come up to the expectations of the common masses over the past five years or, National Conference Ministers and legislators are trying their best to motivate the electorate in order to garner votes during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The party leaders are using different tricks so as to motivate the people to cast vote for them. Since the attention has been shifted from Jammu to Kashmir it remains to be seen how far the NC leaders would be able to make their statements count and ensure victory on the three seats of Kashmir.
National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah is in his true colours these days while addressing election rallies in the Valley. He is enacting 'drama' during the rallies and trying different means to lure the 'gullible' people. He makes a mockery of a serious exercise like elections by dancing to the tunes during election rallies.
On Wednesday (April 16) Dr. Abdullah tried to play a master stroke by apologizing to the Minister for agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir for any mistakes done by his party or party men. However, as Mir preferred to remain silent the NC President had to cut a sorry figure more so before his leaders and workers.
It would be in place to mention here that Dr. Abdullah's younger brother, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal took pot shots at Mir while taking part in a discussion on Mir's role in receiving funds from the army in the autumn session of assembly last year. Dr. Kamaal did not wait for the veracity of the allegations leveled by former army chief V K Singh against Mir and held Mir culprit.
In one of his rallies, the NC President said that time has come when Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) should go while as in yet another rally he lambasted Pakistan and said that continuance of AFSPA is there due to the trouble fomented by the neighbouring country. He has been accusing Peoples Democratic Party of failure, little knowing that his party has turned out to be a 'disaster' for Jammu and Kashmir as far as development is concerned.
On his part, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who is also the working President of National Conference is toeing the single line agenda of targeting PDP and its leaders. Omar has been saying that PDP leaders are partners of BJP with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed being a close ally of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi. He even went to the extent of saying that Mufti is the Amit Shah of Modi in Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar seems to have forgotten that he was a part of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government at the centre led by BJP. Omar served as junior External Affairs Minister and also as junior Industries Minister in the Government which was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee with the majority of Ministers belonging to BJP.
As on date the BJP leaders and workers may be 'untouchables' for National Conference leaders and legislators, but what about their conscientious while their working president was enjoying his stint as Union Minister in the Government headed by 'fundamentalists' or 'communalists'. The one time friends have turned fanatics for Omar and his party.
Senior National Conference leader and Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather today asked the people to vote while keeping the performance of NC-Congress coalition Government in consideration. If the people really do that then Rather should know that his party is due for drubbing since it has failed people on every front.
