Kishtwar, Apr 17: Braving inclement weather, the Kishtwar District of Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Parliamentary seat recorded 67.35% voter turnout on two assembly segments Kishtwar 65.35% and 69.25% on Inderwal constituency.
Large number of people cast their votes early morning despite chilly weather, but the polling picked up as the sun came out. Heavy rains in the afternoon did not deter the voters.
Reports said out of 1,54,274 registered voters in 225 polling stations of two constituencies of Kishtwar and Inderwal, 103978 votes were polled. These include d 46912 female voters as well.
The mood of the people reflected an advantage for the Congress not only in Kishtwar but other parts of erstwhile Doda district including Ramban and Doda. Doda District witnessed 68.41% and 63.22% voter turnout.
Reports also suggested a swing in favour of Congress in Kathua and Udhampur Districts. However, neck to neck fight with BJP is expected.
The impact of last year's communal violence, arrest of encounter specialist police official Shiv Krishan Sharma and recent Kathua terror attack had an impact with Hindu voters opting for the BJP and Muslims choosing the Congress.
The political analysts feel that record voting of 69% which is 24% more than last Parliamentary election has confused the poll analysts as well. The voters of erstwhile Doda district were happy as no untoward incident was reported.
