Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 17: Though the Army personnel deployed on the LoC in Mendhar area of Poonch have foiled a major infiltration bid by militants belonging to Lashkar-i-Toiba, intelligence agencies, including the MI, have received inputs indicating that such ingress bids were to continue. Official sources said today that these inputs from intelligence agencies have also indicated that militants may make determined bids for sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir even after the end of the ongoing Lok Sabha election in the state.
It is in this context that the Army and the BSF have been told to intensify round the clock patrolling on the LoC and the IB for checking ingress of militants.
Reports said that Army and BSF authorities have also, on suggestion from their headquarters in New Delhi, deployed additional companies of forces on the LOC and the IB to upgrade the border management. In addition to this the Defence Ministry and the Union Home Ministry have released funds for procuring additional gadgets for installing on the LOC and the IB so that the Indian forces could monitor the movement of militants in advance and initiate effective measures for foiling ingress bids. According to these reports, though additional companies of police and paramilitary forces may be relocated from one constituency in Kashmir valley to the other from time to time some companies of paramilitary forces have been told to stay put till the announcement of the poll results. Police authorities said that several measures have been taken in hand for preventing separatists, aided by militants, from creating added scare in Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramullah constituencies which go to poll on April 30,April 26 and May 7 respectively. Since the election results may be out by May 16 indications are that additional companies of paramilitary forces may remain in guard in Jammu and Kashmir till the end of May.
