Rather lashes out at BJP for intimidating minorities for political gains | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 21: Hitting hard on BJP and its allies for their off repeated utterances to scrape special status of J&K state by abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution of India, the senior NC leader and Minister for Finance A R Rather today warned them not to test the patience of the people of the state adding that they will never allow them to succeed in their sinister plan, even at the cost of their lives. He said fiddling with Article 370 will have disastrous consequences socially as well as politically. He also ridiculed PDP for its bonhomie with BJP despite knowing that BJPs ideology and policies are totally against the secular traditions of the state. Addressing a series of election public meetings at Rangar, Kathier, Reepora and Koolibagh in his Charar-i-Sharief constituency, Rather said BJP and its saffron brigade, in a bid to intimidate minorities, have challenged not only people of the state but threatened minority of the country also by promising in its election manifesto to implement uniform civil code and construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya in utter disregard to their religious sentiments. The meetings were organised in favour of NC president and the NC-Congress alliance candidate for Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary Constituency Dr Farooq Abdullah. Rather said nomination of Narinder Modi as its prime ministerial candidate by Sangh Parivar has become a cause of concern for the minorities as he has totally failed to protect life and properties of minorities during 2002 Gujarat communal riots and has lost trust and confidence of the people. "His role during Gujarat riots has become a dark chapter in the history of India," Rather added. Rather gave a clarion call to the people to rise to the occasion and unitedly defeat BJP and PDP so that secular ethos of the country is protected. He said Sangh Parivar, in order to implement its Hindutva agenda has bypassed many of its senior and seasoned leaders like L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Jaswant Singh, Murli Manohar Joshi and nominated Narinder Modi who is comparatively Junior but a known fanatic, as its Prime Ministerial candidate. |
