Mandi, (Poonch) Apr 21: How a notorious history sheeter who earns an infamous distinction for having his picture hanging in a police post besides being charged with three FIRs since 2007 enjoys a government patronage as Junior Engineer in BDO office Mandi is an interesting report making rounds in Poonch.
Mohammad Assadullah, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin and resident of Arahi Mandi was found to be a petty crime roller who grew over the years as a notorious criminal involved in many small and big crimes.
Assadullah, interestingly happens to be a junior engineer in Rural Development Department against whom first FIR No. 97 was lodged in 2007 U/S 353, 323, 447, and 142 RPC , PS Mandi, the crime committed by him being of small , but serious natures that found him guilty under the above mentioned sections.
"No arrest or inquest proceedings were initiated against him by the law enforcing agencies as Assadullah happens to be maternal uncle of MLC Shehnaz Ganai," said a source privy to RDD.
On Nov 26, 2008, Assadullah was pronounced as a history sheeter. Another FIR 59/2011, u/s 452, 147 and 323 stood registered against him, again for many offending and criminal acts committed by him, towards which no authority gave a heed as he remained scot free and at abeyance.
" He was one of the accused whose name also figured in the infamous Poonch rape case alongwith other criminals in the act. The main culprit, Moulvi Mohammad Mallik, though was arrested, Assadullah managed his escape, his art and influence, still a mystery for Poonch," said the source.
In 2014, another FIR no 15 was registered against him U/s 376, 366 and 109 RPC , P/S Mandi , but the influential enjoying his élan occupies the government patronage for being Junior Engineer of RDD while holding a posting at BDO office Mandi.
No suspension or arrest for the accused have been ordered from any quarter whereas his association with the rape culprits of Education Department was an established fact .
CEO Abdul Hamid Fani when contacted for a take on his status said that the facts were not in his knowledge and, if found guilty, he would be wrapped under law. " I have directed my ZEO to take the cognizance of the matter," was a weak reaction coming from the CEO.
However, a yeoman's effort has been launched by the probationary Dy SP Dr. Hilal Ahmed , presently SHO Mandi who has assured to bring the guilty to the books. "I have studied his entire case and would be launching raids soon to catch hold of him. No clemency would be shown towards him if he is proven guilty. I have directed men on job and soon positive results would come out," said Dr Hilal Ahmed.
Though the young and new incumbent probationary has religiously launched a crusade to nab the culprit, reports say that higher authorities in his own department have come into lobbying and are allegedly creating impediments for him. Would Assadullah be behind the bars soon is still an amazing mystery in Poonch.
