Tonight's killings come few days after the recent killing of a Sarpanch in the Gulzarpora village of Awantipora area in the Pulwama district as well.
Reports said that militants fired upon Mohammad Anwar Khanday son of Sadiq Khanday resident of Amlar village of Tral at around 9:10 pm.

local hospital. Both Ghulam Nabi and Firdous Ahmad succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The killings that took place within a span

A pall of gloom has descended on both the Amlar and Batagund villages and villagers are quite worried over the killing of a Sarpanch, his
son and a numberdar. Senior police and security forces officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Importantly militants managed to flee from both the localities after carrying out the attacks. A manhunt has been launched to nab the
militants who carried out the two attacks. Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu & Kashmir Police, Army and Central Reserve Police Force
personnel have cordoned off both the areas and launched the hunt to nab the militants responsible for the killings.

Following this incident seven Panchayat members had tendered their resignation in this district and pressure was mounting on others to do the same.
Militants have been carrying out attacks on Sarpanchs and Panchs across the length and breadth of the Kashmir valley with some Sarpanches and Panches getting killed as well. These people have time and again maintained that they have nothing to do with politics and have been elected by people to solve their day to day problems.
Militant organizations have been asking the Sarpanchs and Panchs to quit from their posts or be ready for the dangerous consequences.
