Despite dry weather, temperatures remain below normal in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 21: Despite dry weather during the past 24 hours, the maximum and minimum temperatures remained below normal in the Kashmir valley, where sun was playing hide and seek today.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that there could be light rain or thundershowers at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
However, during the subsequent four days, the weather will be mainly dry and there could be rise in the day temperature, he said.
The minimum temperature witnessed further drop in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where world famous ski resort of Gulmarg remained colder than Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region.
The day started with a bright sunshine today after below normal night temperature in the valley. However, respite was short lived as sun was again playing hide and seek, resulting in cold.
Met spokesman said Gulmarg recorded minus 1.5 degree minimum temperature, 3.5 notches below normal while at Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir, the night temperature was minus 0.3 degree, more than three degree below normal.
However, at Kargil it was minus 0.4 degree against yesterdays 0.0 degree and Leh minus 0.2 degree against 1.8 degree recorded yesterday.
Spokesman said the sky will be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperature at Leh will be around 15 degree and 2 degree respectively.
The summer capital, Srinagar, against yesterdays 7.1 degree the minimum temperature was 5.7 degree, more than two degree below normal.
He said yesterday the maximum temperature was recorded 18 degree, which was three notches below normal in the city, where the sky will be mainly clear but the maximum and minimum temperature would remain below normal.
At Qazigund the night temperature was 4.6 degree, about three degree below normal, Kokernag 4.9 degree, a notch below normal and Kupwara 4 degree, three notches below normal.
