Ex-Home Secy shots back, says Farooq's remark 'utter non-sense' | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 21: The former Union Home Secretary R K Singh today shot back at National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah, saying his remarks over the hanging of Mohammad Afzal Guru were 'utter nonsense'. "He Farooq Abdullah is fully aware about the execution of Guru and is befooling people," Singh told a Srinagar-based news agency. Questioning Farooq's silence when Guru was hanged on February 9, 2013, for abetting an attack on Indian parliament in 2001, Singh said: "Where was Farooq Abdullah at that time, why did he keep mum after his hanging." He should not 'speak non-sense'. He said Farooq's son and Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were aware about the hanging. "Farooq should talk to his son, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister," he added. Blaming RK Singh, who has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Farooq Sunday said that they were kept in dark over the hanging of Guru. He said neither he nor another Union Minister from the state, Ghulam Nabi Azad, were even consulted when the decision to hang Guru was taken." We lodged a complaint with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that why we were not consulted," the NC president, seeking re-election from Srinagar Parliamentary constituency, said. Meanwhile, brother of Guru, Aijaz Guru termed Farooq's remark as poll gimmick. He questioned imposition of curfew hours before Guru was hanged on a February morning. "It is rubbing salt to our wounds," he said. |
