Jammu, June 17: The former Head of the Department (HoD) of Dogri Department, Prof. Shiv Dev Singh Manhas was punished by the Vice Chancellor, Jammu University (JU) in violation of the University guidelines.
As per the guidelines, provided through PIO of Jammu University in response to a TI petition, there is no provision of punishment where a Head of the Department (HoD) misuses his/her powers available in the university calendar while on the other hand Vice Chancellor of JU claimed that the HoD of the Dogri department was removed 4 months before the completion of his tenure just because there were complaints against him. "But if sources are to believed, the shuffle was politically motivated as the former HoD every time used to refuse to fulfil the misdeeds of some of the vested interested persons", said highly placed sources in the JU, adding that just after few months, interviews for the post of one Professor and two Assistant Professors is going to held and some of the influential persons pressurize the Vice Chancellor of JU to remove Dr Shiv DevManhas from the post of HoD as they were in fear that he (Manhas) will not full fill their deeds.
In reply to a question under RTI application bearing no: Adm/TW/14/1513, PIO of JU revealed that "there is no specific proviosn of Punishment where a Head of the Department misuses his/her powers available in the University Calendar". However, while talking to Early Times, Dr. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu said that the former HoD was removed before completion of his tenure because of complaint against him. |
