Fallible CM realizes his folly
Withdraws Facebook posting after 15 minutes

JAMMU, June 17: Less than fifteen minutes after he posted this picture on his Facebook page, with the comment "one like one respect', Chief Minister Omar Abdullah retrieved the posting realizing that it could put a serious question mark on his own intent on ensuring social security to the senior citizens in J&K.
While Omar's posting did invite seven 'likes', it opened up the Chief Minister to public scrutiny over the initiatives of his government in ensuring better health, security and respect to the senior citizens within their own families and the society in general.
The picture the CM chose to post itself is a reflection of the poor state that our citizens are in and also of the insensitivity and indifference of the political class towards the problems faced by this part of the population, which retired after making useful contributions to the society during their prime.
It is pertinent to mention here that the senior citizens are being subjected to physical and mental torture within their own families and many of them are abandoned by their own children, but they have no access to fora that can ensure justice to them.
Several legislations implemented in rest of the country that make it mandatory for the children to take care of their parents in old age are yet to make their way into J&K because of the insensitivity of the political class.
Omar probably was smart to realize his folly and withdrew the post soon, but whether or not he actually intends to ensure respect for the old and infirm shall only be reflected in his actions and not in his Facebook postings.
