JKNPP continues to grope in the dark
Reorganization of J&K
6/17/2014 11:34:52 PM

Rustam

JAMMU, June 17: The leadership of Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) has decided to meet in Jammu on July 6 to discuss its plan aimed at making the authorities accept its demand seeking reorganization of Jammu & Kashmir. It is strange. Strange because it has been discussing this issue again, again and again and not doing anything to give an effect to its plan.
The JKNPP, which was founded by Bhim Singh more than two decades ago, has umpteen times held meetings in the past not only of party workers to discuss the issue but also involved in these meetings prominent figures from Jammu province. It held a big meeting in 2011 and after the meeting it made public its Agenda 2011. The agenda suggested that the JKNPP would start a full-fledged campaign across Jammu province and work for the reorganization of the state. Its leadership had then stated that it will create an environment that would force the authorities to set up three assemblies in the state, one each for Jammu province, Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, and bifurcate all the directorates, administrative departments and economic institutions so that the Kashmiri leadership couldn't discriminate between the regions. It had also stated that the JKNPP leadership will not accept any solution that doesn't empower the people of Jammu province to have their own Chief Minister. Separate Chief Minister, separate assembly and separate directorates were, among other things, the major components of its Agenda 2011.
The JKNPP leadership did the same in 2012 and 2013. It adopted resolutions on reorganization of the state and made them public with much fanfare. In fact, in 2012 and 2013, it held out solemn commitment that it would fight for the Jammu cause and leave no stone unturned to achieve its mission. But the JKNPP leadership only held a few press conferences. It did nothing whatever to fulfill its commitment or implement its agenda. As expected, the people of Jammu province lost all hope in the party leadership believing that the JKNPP leadership consisted only of paper tigers and not of panthers. It was no wonder that the party leadership became unpopular in the province. And it can be seen from its highly dismal performance in the LokSabha elections. Both the candidates, including Bhim Singh, forfeited their security deposit, notwithstanding the fact that they made Jammu their poll plank. The decision of the party to hold a meeting in Jammu on July 6 to discuss the same old issue appears to be a desperate attempt on the part Bhim Singh to attract the people's attention and remain in the news. He and his party may get some media coverage on that day and next day, but it will not help the party in any way. The people of Jammu want action on the ground and not hollow slogans. If the JKNPP leadership is sincerely committed to achieving what it has been talking about since years now, it has no other option but to remain active on the ground and focus only on Jammu problem.
It cannot talk about, Jammu, Kashmir, POJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan at the same time. The people of Jammu are fed up with the hobnobbing of Bhim Singh with Pakistani leadership and anti-India leadership in POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. It must remember that it will get decimated in the assembly elections if it continued to tread the old path.
