Treasuries running dry; Omar still claims to complete all pending works in 6 months

SRINAGAR, July 26: The Government treasuries are running dry, giving tough times to the people of the state. The budget presented by the Government is a reality on the paper only as the claims of Government that it will prove to be "impressive" has actually proved to be a damp squib.
The condition of the treasuries is such that these are not even in the capacity to pay the amount of just some thousands of rupees. People are surprised to hear the CM of the state saying that the pending works of the last five years will be completed in six months when there is not even a single penny in the treasuries.
People are tense as they have to go for shopping for Eid which is to be celebrated after a couple of days. The Government employees and workers aren't hopeful that they will get relief before Eid. All, from a labourer to an employee, are worried as how they will go homes with empty hands.
"It is from the last seven months that I haven't been paid honorarium. It has created a difficult situation for the people like me. When we approach the concerned authorities, they come out with a simple answer that there is no money in the treasuries," said an Anganwari worker of the ICDS project Budgam wishing not to be named.
Such is the efficient governance and so much is the Government concerned about the people that even the medical bills of those patients are pending who are suffering from serious diseases and the CM is promising skies to the people in the election rallies.
"The treasuries are dry and in the coming days the state will be bankrupted but the authorities are least concerned about that. Whether the treasuries are dry or not, it hardly matters to the people in power. It is the commoner who has to bear the brunt of this short coming," said Ali Mohammad, a contractor by profession from Srinagar.
Economists have been raising their concerns about the fact that the state is heading towards the bankruptcy but the people in power never bothered to give their serious thoughts towards this burning issue. It looks as if the people in power have turned blind towards this fact.
"Government has no policy to deal with the situation and it is the poor lot that feels the heat. The present Government has miserably failed to address the problems of the people. This Government is not able to do so because it has lost its identity at the Centre," said Mukhtar Ahmad from Srinagar.
