M S Nazki POONCH, July 26 : The mastermind of IED blast, that on June 24 last destroyed Naib-Tehsildar's office at Dhargloon in Balakote area here, who had escaped from the custody of Gursai police in Kashmir a few days back, was today rearrested by police from a valley area. After the explosion, that badly damaged the naib-tehsildar's office at Dhargloon, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed. During the course of investigation, SIT members - additional SP, Poonch, Amit Gupta, DSP (operations), Poonch, Javed Naaz, SDPO (Mendhar) Surinder Choudhary and Gursai police station SHO Sadaqat Qureshi - caught hold of Mohammad Irfan, son of Abdul Qayum of Dhargloon. When he was put to sustained interrogation, he turned out to be the mastermind behind the blast. He allegedly told his interrogators that he had purchased the IED for Rs 60,000 from Abdul Majid of Kupwara, who at present was living at Batmaloo, Srinagar. Acting on his information, the SIT members left for Batmaloo and also took Irfan with them. According to police sources, Majid was picked up from Batmaloo after being identified by Irfan on July 12 last. While they were being brought in a vehicle to Poonch, the police party was stuck in a traffic jam at Khanyar. Taking benefit of the situation, Majid had jumped out of the police vehicle and created a scene, telling locals that he had been wrongly detained by police. Some locals, who were already there, then stoned the cops and their vehicle, damaging it. Taking benefit of the situation, both Majid and Irfan had made good their escape. The Gursai police station SHO, who was wounded in the incident along with six other policemen, was then attached with DPL, Poonch, as a mark of punishment. M A Mirza was posted new SHO of the police station in his place. Acting on a specific information, the SIT members, led by SHO Mirza, today apprehended Irfan from his hideout at Kutli Bagh in Ganderbal, Srinagar. Other SIT members included HC Nisar Khan, HC Navel Khan, HV Maroof Ahmad and cop Aiyaz Ahmad. The team operated under the supervision of SSP, Poonch, Shamsheer Hussain. Majid was still evading arrest. Police hoped to arrest him too soon. |
