Ahead of elections, its Bodhi v/s Bhagat at Raipur Domana

Jammu, July 26: Amid speculations that the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) may not give mandate to its sitting MLA from Raipur-Domana for the upcoming Assembly polls, a sense of uneasiness has gripped the party workers from the constituency who are getting restless with each passing day as the process of finalization of prospective candidates is inching closer.
If sources within the BJP are to be believed, resentment is fast brewing up among supporters of MLA Raipur-Domana Bharat Bhushan Bodhi since they apprehend that party may deny him the mandate and prefer State BJP General Secretary Bali Bhagat to contest from the constituency.
Sources informed Early Times that a deputation from Raipur-Domana Assembly segment comprising around 70 persons including 15 Sarpanchs, 8-10 Panchs, 7-8 Naib Sarpanchs and 20 BJP workers met General Secretary (Organization) BJP Ashok Koul to protest any behind the curtain moves to deprive party ticket to Bodhi.
"Ever since Bali Bhagat's name has propped up as a likely party candidate from Raipur-Domana, the followers of Bodhi have started to raise eyebrows… They are agitated over the development and are opposing the possible candidature of Bhagat tooth and nail on the grounds that he is an outsider," said sources.
Sources further said that Sarpanch Barn Dalbir Singh, Sarpanch Domana Shamsher Singh, Sarpanch Barnai Rajdev Singh, Sarpanch Muthi Rajroop Singh, Sarpanch Gharota Narinder Singh, Sarpanch Khandal Paramjeet Singh and Sarpanch Padrore Raghubir Singh, who were part of the group conveyed to Koul in clear terms that people of Raipur-Domana will not tolerate denial of ticket to Bodhi and in no way ready to accept Bali Bhagat.
"The group while expressing its displeasure told Koul that injustice to Bodhi will not be tolerated at any cost… Sarpanchs, Panchs and party workers in one voice communicated to the BJP General Secretary that if Bharat Bhushan is denied mandate from Raipur-Domana then party may lose the seat to Congress," said sources quoting the contents of the discussion held during the meeting.
The sources further divulged that after listening to the BJP supporters and workers, General Secretary Ashok Koul said that party will conduct a survey and on the basis of its outcome the candidate for the seat will be finalized.
"Only the suggestions made by the people of Raipur-Domana in the proposed survey will actually prevail in deciding the candidate," sources quoting Koul said.
Meanwhile, sources further said that Bodhi's staunch supporters believe that the BJP can not commit a blunder by denying him a mandate as his strong foothold in Raipur-Domana Assembly constituency cannot be overlooked.
"MLA Raipur-Domana's admirers say that the BJP brought Bodhi to party fold owing to his solid support base in the constituency… The supporters even maintained that the BJP was not able to garner more than 7000 votes before 2008 Assembly polls from the constituency but due to Bodhi's presence and his sincere efforts the party got nearly 47,000 votes in the last Parliamentary elections," said sources.
