Clashes in Ganderbal leave several policemen, youth injured
Moulvi accused of inciting stone pelting

SRINAGAR, July 26: Curfew like restrictions were imposed in Tulmulla area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal District following violent protests that erupted after an employee was allegedly caught with a girl inside a Government office. Dozens of people including one Moulvi were injured in the incident.
According to police Spokesman, Ganderbal police took cognizance of an incident in the office of ZEO, Tulmulla where some locals spotted a youth with a girl in ZEO office when the office was closed in which later a case was registered and the youth was taken into custody.
The details reveal that the youth identified as Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Syed Sheikh resident of Saloora Ganderbal was spotted by some locals with a girl in ZEO Office Tulmulla in the jurisdiction of police station Kheerbawani when the offices were closed on account of holiday and as the news spread some people entered into the office and pounced on him and thrashed him mercilessly while the female managed to flee from the spot with the help of some respectable citizens. Agitated mob set his motor cycle (JK01L-2490) on fire, yet the timely intervention of police saved the accused from the wrath of the violent mob.
Police spokesman said that violent mob tried to set the office building on fire as well, however, police foiled their attempt and they were dispersed and in this regard Police registered an FIR vide number 36/2014 against the employee who was caught with the girl.
Locals alleged police high handedness and added that Police thrashed people indiscriminately leaving several including one Moulvi injured.
Police spokesman, however, said that in the evening during the Shab -I-Qadar prayers the Molvi of Mohshar Pora Tulamulla incited public using the loudspeaker of the mosque inciting them against police as to why police saved the life of errant youth. The use of the loudspeaker encouraged and incited people to indulge in severe stone pelting. The intense stone pelting on police continued till late night. Police spokesman added that around Eight policemen were injured in this stone pelting and Four people have been arrested, while as locals informed that dozens of youth were also injured in Police lathicharge and teargas shelling during night protests. Police spokesman concluded that further reinforcement were requisitioned from Srinagar today and the situation was brought under control.
