NC's `old wine in new bottles' surprises none | | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, July 26: What could be termed as a compulsion, National Conference has come out with the list of the candidates that was expected though against the aspirations of the people. There is nothing surprising about it as it may be called 'Old wine in new bottles'. Overwhelming victory of the BJP and the shameful defeat of the Congress at the centre has left National Conference with no choice but to try the old guns because there is no ammunition left for the party in the ammunition depot of the congress party. The party has once again reposed faith in the old lot thinking that they might be able to bring the party out of the troubled waters which according to experts is nothing but the daydreaming of the party leaders. The people are very much aware about their wrong doings in the last five and half years. The party seems to be reluctant in trying the new faces fearing a backlash from the old lords. The party seems to have preferred the candidates purely on the basis of their long political career leaving aside their controversial nature. It appears that the party hasn't learnt any lesson from their defeat in the recently held parliamentary elections where people rejected its leaders on account of their underperformance. The experts believe that the party is gambling by giving the mandates to the people who are on the hit list the voters. "National Conference can't do more than that. Its leaders can't take chances at this point of time because it is going to aggravate the already existing problems for the party though it is a hard reality that the party will not retain the power," said Shabir Ahmad from Srinagar while sharing his ideas with Early Times. A group of people at Budgam said, "National Conference is not guided by the principles rather it is driven by the compulsions because of the fact that the party has once again given the mandate to the candidates who are thorns in the eyes of the people." In an election rally at Baramulla in connection with the parliamentary elections, as people say, minister for higher education, Mohammad Akbar Lone slapped a poor fellow, that too in front of the CM. These people question Omar Abdullah that should have he considered this man as the candidate for the assembly elections? |
