SRINAGAR, Aug 21: The 26th State Volleyball Championship, organised by Bandipore District Volleyball Association under the aegis of Volleyball Association of J&K, got underway at Sher-e-Kashmir Sports Stadium, Bandipore, here today. The opening day witnessed league round of the competition in both boys and girls sections wherein defending champion, district Jammu, Samba and Baramulla emerged winners in both boys and girl sections. Earlier, the championship was declared open by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipore, Dr Shah Faisal, who was chief guest in the well attended inaugural function. He interacted with the participating teams and wished them success. Earlier, chairman of the organising committee, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), S A Raina welcomed the distinguished gathering and presented a detailed report of the event. In this competition, 18 teams in boys and 12 in girls section are taking part on league-cum-knockout basis. The inaugural match took place between defending boys' champion Jammu district and hosts Bandipore wherein former emerged winner. Prominent among those present were Nizam-u-Din Wani, Hardeep Singh Gill, R C Sharma, Tariq Ahmad and V K Magotra as also organising secretary, Arsullah Habib Bhat. Today's matches officiated by the technical penal including Amarjeet Singh, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Manik Nargorta, Neeraj, Naresh Kumar and Azar Aranzab. The Detailed Results: BOYS: Jammu beat Bandipora 25-19, 25-20; Kathua beat Ramban 25-17, 25-22; Baramulla beat Udhampur 25-21,16-25,15-10; Kathua beat Shopian 26-24,23-25,15-7; Samba beat Poonch 25-18,20-25,15-13; Budgam beat Shopian 25-16,25 -10. GIRLS: Samba beat Budgam 25-06, 25-08; Jammu beat Pulwama 25-08, 25-14; Baramulla beat Anantnag 25-14, 25-08. |
