Modi Govt unlikely to hold talks with separatists

Early Times Report
jammu, Aug 21: In a significant departure from the former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee's policy on the Kashmir issue, the Centre is unlikely to hold talks with the Kashmir based separatists in the near future.
According to sources the Modi Government has decided to take the line that since separatists are just fringe elements and don't even have the representative character there is no ground to hold talks with them.
"Separatists camp assumed the role of the voice of the Kashmir region when the terrorism was at peak and mainstream politicians were either killed or they fled way. But now things have changed and three Government have been elected since the terrorism started. The separatists have lost their relevance," said a senior official in the Home Ministry.
The new thinking in the Government is that Vajpayee tried to go extra-mile on the Kashmir issue but it didn't find the reciprocity and now the same can't be repeated again.
"First of the all Modi would not try to be Vajpayee. He is a different person. Secondly, the separatists should first acknowledge that it is the Indian Constitution and its writ that runs in the State. And it can't change. So they first show and publicly acknowledge that they would swear by the Indian constitution and only then talks can be held," said the official.
It's in the back drop of this new line of thinking in the Government that in a stern message to both the separatists and also the Pakistan that talks were called off which were scheduled to be held on Aug 25.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had send enough signals on his view of the Jammu and Kashmir when on his two visits to the state, he didn't make any reference to the Kashmir nor did he address any public rally in the Kashmir, though he did so in Jammu, Kargil and also in Leh.
