JU sets wrong precedent, opens admissions for regular, correspondence courses at same time | | Sandeep Bhat | 8/22/2014 10:56:59 AM |
| Jammu, Aug 21: For the first time, the Jammu University has opened admissions for regular and correspondence courses at the same time . The admissions to regular classes used to take place in advance and to correspondence courses by department of distance education usually after a gap of two months of the regular admissions. As per the information available with Early Times, the faculty members are not happy with the way the university authorities are working this time with the procedure of admission. On the condition of anonymity, a senior faculty member said this year the university is setting a wrong precedent and the higher authority is working allegedly on the directions of a senior ruling party member. The Department of Education has to fill 50 seats in regular courses and total number of available seats is 120, which include the colleges affiliated to Jammu University such as Model institute of education and research, Govt college of education and KC college of education. First priority is used to be to these colleges and in the Department of education where even today, the seats are vacant. Rahul Sharma, a scholar in Jammu University said that this is a wrong precedent set by the university authorities and will further multiple the problems. They should have continued with the old practice of holding admissions. Sukriti Sharma, another student, said that first they should fill the seats of regular classes in education department and then they should go for admissions in correspondence courses through department of distance education. Now with this move, more students will prefer to take admissions through DDE as they don't have to attend classes regularly in Jammu University and also get books and notes at their own places. By opening admissions at same time for both regular and correspondence courses, the university has sent a wrong signal to the students. Why this year university authority started this practice is only known to them and how the seats in other colleges and department of education get filled remains to be seen. Many feel that those at the helm of affairs should have not started new experiment. |
