Omar's indecisiveness delays NC's fourth list | Rebellion in Ganderbal on cards, Jabbar wants mandate | | Fazal Khan
Srinagar, Aug 24: The ruling National Conference today once again failed to release the much hyped fourth list of its candidates for the forthcoming assembly elections as the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah couldn't take a final call over where to contest from. Sources told Early Times the NC had finalized its fourth list of candidates on Saturday and it was decided that Omar would contest from Sonawar and list would be released today. " A few NC leaders are insisting that Omar should contest from Ganderbal rather than Sonawar," a source said, adding that Omar is "reluctant" to contest from Ganderbal due to many reasons. A young NC leader Ishfaq Jabbar who is all set to get the mandate from Ganderbal if Omar sticks to Sonawar while talking to Early Times said, "My supporters want me to contest the forthcoming elections from Ganderbal and they are already making the preparations for it." Asked if Omar decides to contest from Ganderbal would he support him (Omar), Jabbar said, "If such a situation arises I will go back to my supporters and will seek their opinion. Whatever they decide, I will follow it." He claimed that 80 percent of the youth in Ganderbal are with him and he would emerge as winner from the turf. Asked would he contest as an independent candidate if NC drops him, Jabbar said, "Till now I have not been dropped. If I don't get the mandate we will see." Sources said that party delaying the fourth list has pushed the NC candidates to edge. "If party keeps on delaying it there is every possibility of NC witnessing a split," they claimed. Party's Provincial President Kashmir Nasir Aslam Wani said the fourth list of the candidates would be released within three days and the meeting for the same is yet to be held. Nasir said the NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah is out of station at present. "Dr Sahib (Farooq Abdullah) had to leave for health check up. The list will be released within three days and the meeting of the NC leadership is yet to be held," he added. Infighting and indecisive approach of the National Conference has brought the party on the crossroads. "If party leadership fails to change its attitude many NC workers will be forced to change their loyalties," said a NC leader wishing not to be named. "Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa approach of the Chief Minister has pushed the party to brink. He has to change himself for NC to exist," the leader added. Sources revealed that NC may look into the mandates given to six candidates from north and south Kashmir. "There is every possibility of the party asking six candidates from north and south to bow out as the party leadership has received adverse feedback from the ground," they added. |
