Prof thrashes 3rd yr student in class, Minister assures inquiry | | | Bivek Mathur
Jammu, Aug 30: Irked by the ringing of cellphone of a BA 3rd year student of Government Degree College (boys), Udhampur, an Economics Professor humiliated and thrashed him in the classroom. The student had forgotten to put his cellphone on switch off or silent mode before entering the classroom. Sources said assistant professor (economics) Ramesh Kumar was taking B.A third year class on Thursday when the cellphone of Deepak Kumar started ringing. The professor then snatched the phone from Deepak. Though he apologized for his mistake and requested him to return his phone, he did not and asked him to leave the class. When the student again requested the teacher on Friday to return his phone, the teacher allegedly asked him to perform sit ups and the moment he refused, the irked teacher allegedly held him from his shirt's collar and slapped him. Same was the attitude of the teacher on Saturday too when the student again approached him for his cellphone. This scribe, when contacted college Principal over phone, he first came in open support of the teacher justifying his alleged misconduct but later assured to enquire into the matter personally if a complaint was filed with his office. When contacted. Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone assured necessary action against the said Assistant Professor for his alleged misconduct with the student.
