As peace returns border residents start rebuilding lives | | | JAMMU, Aug 30: A day after the Indian and Pakistani border guards decided to follow the established mechanism to restore peace along the International border, a large percentage of border residents staying away from their houses for past 10 days started returning to their deserted villages. The confidence was restored among the local population after the sector commander level flag meeting attended by BSF and Pak rangers resolved to restore peace and respect ceasefire agreement. Small percentage of villagers had started returning to their houses in the forward villages on Friday after the district administration started rolling out the temporary camps set up in RS Pura. Before returning homes, the villagers were terrified as fear loomed large over their minds. Once inside their houses villagers lost no time in setting their house in order and started cleaning their houses, locked for last more than 10 days. The worst affected villages in the RS Pura and Arnia sector witnessed lot of activity since early morning as villagers attended to their live stock, reared them and went about their routine life without fearing much for the Pak rangers who were targeting their villages with mortar shells and heavy machine gun fire. |
