Cong leadership under pressure to announce candidate from Kishtwar | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 5: The Congress workers from Kishtwar have made an appeal to party high command to clear the name of its candidate from Kishtwar assembly segment as early as possible so that he does not lag behind in the contest as candidates of other parties have already started campaigning. The Congress activists in a meeting in the town today made an appeal to leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC chief and former Union Minister Saifudin Soz to clear the name of party candidate from Kishtwar as the NC-BJP and PDP have already cleared their candidates and they have also started campaigning. PCC activists Farooq Ahmed Tapal and Tilak Raj Shan while addressing a meeting of party workers said that Kishtwar constituency, which hilly and spread over a vast area, needs extra time for campaigning. They said while other parties have well in advance declared their candidates, Congress is yet to decide its candidate. During the meeting the name of Youth Congress leader and Member of Kissan Development Board for district Kishtwar Shamsher Singh Bhandari figured and members demanded that he be nominated as party candidate from Kishtwar. The meeting appealed both Azad and Soz to consider the name of Bhandari as party candidate as he has the capacity to take on the other parties including NC, PDP and BJP. The meeting said as other parties have also given mandate to young candidates, Congress should also field a young candidate like Bhandari as he has maintained a good rapport with the people. Bhandari said he would obey the directives of party high command. "Whatever the party leadership may deem fit and whatever responsibility it will put on my shoulders I will discharge that," he added. It may be recalled that BJP has cleared the name of Sunil Sharma as party candidate from Kishtwar while NC has cleared the name of MoS Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and PDP has given mandate to Firdose Ahmed Tak. But Congress Party is yet to clear the name of its candidate and delay in this regard has perturbed the Party leadership which is pressing the Party to clear the name as early as possible so that the Party can also join the campaign. |
