Govt's move of closing educational institutions on Teacher's Day draws flak from some quarters | Refer to it as a plan to stop Modi's interaction with J&K students | | Sandeep Bhat SRINAGAR, Sept 5: The closure of schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir on Teacher's Day on the plea of floods and rains by NC-Congress coalition evokes mixed response from the common people. No doubt, the rains have created a havoc in both regions of the state and have also created an alarming situation but many feel, this dispensation took this step not because of rains and floods but to stop J&K students from hearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi live on Teacher's Day today. It is pertinent to mention here that the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development Department headed by Smriti Irani had ordered all the school administrations to arrange TV sets for direct telecast of Prime Minister Modi's address to the students across the country. Almost all the schools had already made the necessary arrangements in this regard and the preparation was in final stage, but the sudden order of closure of schools and colleges came as a surprise to many people and many were disappointed also. Talking to Early Times, a number of school principals, headmasters and teachers said that no doubt there is continuous rains lashing throughout the state and there is also flood like situation in many parts, but closure of schools at this juncture has disappointed not only students but the teachers also. The sudden government decision in this regard has changed the scenario altogether. We as teachers have to obey the government order and abide by this. The closure of schools and colleges has also disappointed many students who were eagerly waiting to listen Modi's address today which they have been denied. Many people have appreciated the decision of state government to close down the schools and colleges and further added that the safety of students and children is important than watching prime minister's lecture. Whether this decision of state government was purely on merit and present conditions or it was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the programme of prime minister on Teacher's Day. Only the time will give answer as both National Conference and Congress are not in good books of Modi. |
