NC ministers face public ire for failing to provide relief to flood affected people | Yet another embarrassment to coalition government | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Sept 5: A trio of National Conference ministers had to face public ire after the flood affected people living in the outskirts of summer capital pelted stones on their cavalcade and raised vociferous slogans against the state government for their alleged failure in tackling the situation that has emerged after the devastating flood in Kashmir valley. Reports said that Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Minister, Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan along with minister for Law & Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mir Saifullah and Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo were on their way to South Kashmir to assess the situation that has emerged after the flood. As soon as the cavalcade of National Conference Ministers reached Pantha Chowk in the outskirts of Srinagar they were confronted by the locals. The locals raised strong protest against the ministers and said that government has failed to provide succor to them since they were badly hit by floods. The protestors said that ever since the flood has hit them none of the Ministers or government officials has visited them. They alleged that the state government has miserably failed in providing relief to them and as such the Ministers have no right to move to South Kashmir while they are in trouble. The protestors had heated arguments with the security staff of the three Ministers and they did not allow them to move ahead. The Ministers could not do anything and they could be seen listening to the grievances of the residents of Pantha Chowk, Sempora and adjoining areas. The Ministers turned red faced and virtually they had no answer to the queries of people. Some of the protesters pelted stones on the Ministers and their security staff. The situation turned volatile in the area and there was panic all around. The stone pelting caught the Ministers and their security staff unawares and they were all at sea while dealing with this critical situation. The police personnel accompanying the Ministers fired some shots in the air and the situation turned to worse from bad at this place. The aerial firing led to panic among the people and they could be seen running towards safer places. As the situation was tense the Ministers had to eat a humble pie and they returned to their respective places without visiting the South Kashmir for which they had ventured out of their cozy rooms. Today's incident is yet another embarrassment to the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah. |
