Stranded passengers rue Govt apathy, administrative indifference | Highway closed for second day | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 5: Facing the wrath of nature's fury, scores of passengers stranded in Jammu and enroute the 300 kilometers long national highway following its closure due to incessant rains during the last three days have rued apathetical attitude of the government and the administration in reaching out to them while in distress. While hundreds of them are forced to stay inside their vehicles on the road, those stranded in Jammu are staying under the roof of General Bus Stand Jammu in harsh weather conditions. Ghulam Qadir, a resident of Anantnag who is staying here in Bus Stand Jammu said that the condition of Jammu Bus stand was so bad the previous night that people were cramming over one another like animals to get a space for a sleep but there was no arrangement in place by the district administration to address the problems of the stranded passengers. Another passenger from Shopain, Abbas shared his experience with Early Times saying, "Government's indifference towards the stranded passengers could be gauged from the fact that neither Police nor district administration was cooperating with the public. Even no arrangement was made to separate the crowd on the station so as to avail space for them to rest". "We are feeling hapless as the vehicular movement to the valley was terminated and there was no arrangement to intimate the public about the scenario of movement of vehicles which exploded the myth of Jammu and Kashmir government about the preparedness of SDMA and Traffic Police to ease out the problems of public," he added. |
