Flood hit hospital locked

SRINAGAR, Sept 5: Is it a wise move to build a hospital in the area which submerges even on light rainfall and which is flood prone? It is worth annoying that a hospital is locked when fear of a flood grips the authorities and the patients are shifted even when they are in critical condition. One of the premier hospitals of the valley, SKIMS Bemina which caters to a huge rush of patients on daily basis and where a good number of patients remain admitted also had to be locked because flood water entered into its ground floor. There is always a potential threat of flood water entering into the hospital whenever it rains for three to four days, giving painful moments to the staff, patients and the attendants. "As it rained continuously and heavily on Tuesday and Wednesday, we got concerned that the water may enter the hospital any time during the night. The sound of the continuous rainfall made us to take churns in the bed. My cousin, who was my attendant also, became restless when he heard other people in the hospital talking about the possibility of the hospital getting submerged in the water," said a patient, wishing not to be named who was discharged prior to the closing of the hospital. This patient went on saying that the SKIMS Bemina has the history of getting submerged in the water. According to this patient the flood water entered the hospital some thirteen fourteen years before and the patients had to be shifted to the upper floors of the hospital. In the situations of floods SKIMS Bemina is a dreaded place than a comfortable one. People ask why the government didn't take preventive measures before coming up with a hospital in the flood prone area. What would have happened to people in the hospital had the flood water all of a sudden entered the hospital during the night hours, people ask. As according to these people, it is the miss management on part of the government.
