Devotees immerse Lord Ganesha's idols with religious gaiety | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, Sept 7: Dozens of devotees chanting hymns dedicated to Lord Ganesha today immersed the idols of the deity in Kathua canal with religious fervor and gaiety. The idols of Lord Ganesha were installed on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi which is being celebrated across the country with enthusiasm. Talikng to Early times a devotee, Sudarshan Bhargav said Ganesha Mahotsav, started by freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in 1894 has transformed into a major social festival and attract huge crowds everywhere in the country. Another devotee Ramesh said, "It is a family tradition to celebrate Ganesha festival year after year in many homes. Many believe that they and their families, homes, occupations, businesses get blessed if they bring home a Ganesha idol and perform the Pooja. As we are out of our homes and families we use to celebrate the festival jointly." |
