Situation worse in remotest areas of Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban
Survived by nature's fury, residents at the verge of starvation

Jammu, Sept 7: Although weather remained clear throughout the day today, hundreds of villages in higher reaches of Jammu region are still unconnected with the rest of the world. As authorities are establishing communication with these cut off villages, reports of deaths are continue to increase with every passing hour.
Reports said that residents of most of the cut off villages especially those situated in the remotest areas are at the verge of the starvation.
Contrary to the claims of the authorities, most of the outlets being run by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department are dry because there is no ration. Authorities are concentrating only on towns and adjoining localities but situation is grim in remotest hilly areas of Udhampur, Ramban and Reasi districts.
Reports said that hundreds of houses have been collapsed in Mahore, Gulabgarh, Gool, Chasana, Panchari and other parts of the Ramban district but authorities have yet to establish connect with these cut off areas.
Hundreds of people, who have became homeless due to incessant rains and land sliding, have taken shelters in PanchayatGhars or buildings of schools but they do not have any food to eat. Ration which they have hoarded is buried in the debris of their houses so they are the verge of starvation. People are demanding that authorities should drop food packets in cut off areas because it is difficult to restore road connectivity with these areas.
Some of the residents of these areas have tried to highlight their problems through radio but authorities finding it difficult to establish connect with these areas.
Unconfirmed reports said that hundreds of people are still missing in remotest areas of Ramban, Reasi and Udhampur districts. Reports said that some people are still buried under the debris of their houses which have been collapsed due to land-sliding.
Today's some bodies were recovered from Panchari area of Udhampur district but a number of people are still buried in the debries, reports said and added that situation was worse in other remote areas where authorities have yet to establish contact.
