Separatists hide in holes as Army turns savior for distressed Valleyites | | | Kunal Shrivatsa
JAMMU, Sept 7: One of the most striking features of the traumatic floods in the valley has been the exigency with which the Army and the teams of NDRF have responded to the situation and risked their own lives to protect the lives of the citizens. The tragic Pulwama incident in which 9 Army jawans were washed away while launching a rescue operation for the trapped locals is a testimony to the gallant and selfless service that Army, assisted by paramilitary forces, NDRF and state police have rendered to rise to the challenges of unprecedented tragedy. The other most striking feature of the tragedy is the stoic silence maintained by the 'separatists', the 'self proclaimed messiahs' of Kashmiri people over the humane approach of the Army personnel against whom these separatists spare no opportunity to spit venom. Though Army men alongwith local police are risking their own lives to rescue the people from heavily flooded areas, the likes of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, heading 'Hardliner' Hurriyat Conference and the 'Moderate' faction of the same outfit led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq or for that matter the other separatist leaders like Shabbir Shah, Yasin Malik have suddenly gone into oblivion as they are not making any appeals to the innocent Kashmiri people not to take any help from Army, which they often do whenever the situation suits them. For the last over two decades, the separatist forces in their bid to hoodwink the Kashmiri people in the name of 'Azadi' always tried to instigate the masses against security forces particularly Army, who at this crucial juncture is extending a helping hand to people in distress. Army's untiring efforts and timely aid in this hour of crisis is proving crucial in reducing the extent of damages to the life and property in several flood affected areas of Kashmir in general and Srinagar city in particular. Now, when Army is involved religiously in saving human lives in Kashmir, why the Hurriyat leadership and other separatists have fallen silent and not asking the people to boycott assistance from Army or express resentment against security forces, who have been labeled as 'brutal', 'inhuman' and what not time and again by those who champion the cause of 'Kashmiriyat' and Kashmiris. The separatists must realize now that without the help and assistance of the Army, the massive rescue operations taken up in Kashmir to move the people to safer places were not possible. |
