Flood fury in J&K sounds death, destruction to areas across LOC, IB | | | Jammu, Sept 7 : Not only in Jammu and Kashmir but in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and in areas across Akhnoor border Government authorities have bungled while implementing flood control measures. As a result of defective flood control plan and faulty implementation of flood control measures Jammu and Kashmir state besides areas in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir have faced worst ever flood fury. While in Jammu and Kashmir about 170 people have been killed in floods, landslides and house collapses more than 100 civilians have lost their lives in flood across the IB and the LOC. Reports from across the border revealed that heavy rain and floods in River Chenab and its tributaries claimed another 36 lives in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir on Saturday raising the total number of death to 148. Alarm bells rang in the affected regions after the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) said a fresh peak of "extremely exceptional high flood" - 861,000 cusecs - had entered River Chenab at Marala from Jammu (Akhnoor). It was expected to rise to 900,000 cusecs before Sunday morning. |
