SRINAGAR, Sept 7: With flash floods creating havoc in Kashmir Valley the administration is caught napping and helpless as it has failed to rescue the thousands of stranded and flood hit people and evict them to safer places. According to sources the river Jehlum which is flowing over the danger mark in South Kashmir district of Anantnag and Central Kashmir district of Srinagar has inundated hundreds of villages and maximum portion of Srinagar city and civil lines area.
The flood waters have created havoc and situation is grim and people are crying for help with women and children sobbing and wailing pleading the administration for help and their eviction to safer places. Hundreds of people have been trapped in Raj Bagh area and administration has faield to evict them to safer places. The people trapped in flood face a nightmarish experience as despite the tall claims of Government the rescue and relief operations have not been launched properly. The administration is totally callous and it is turning down the pleas of the people asking them to press in service boats and other things to shift them to safer places. ADC Srinagar behaved in a rude way with the BJP leaders who requested him for support in rescuing some of the people trapped in city. The BJP leader has taken up the issue with Party High Command in New Delhi and one of the Union Minister's took up the issue with the representatives of State Government expressing his displeasure over the functioning of civil administration at this hour of crisis. Sources said thousands of people have been trapped in flood waters in South Kashmir districts of Pulwama and Anantnag including some ministers. The Minister of Tourism is trapped in Anantnag for last five days and he has run short of medicines also. The entire South Kashmir is cut off from rest of the State and there is no communication link.
A police officer said that there is no communication with South Kashmir and administration is unable to know about the ground situation in the twin districts. Sources said that thousands of people are trapped in flood prone area of Sherpathri in Central district of Ganderbal while the civil lines area including the Amirakadal and Residency road, Karan Nnagar , SMHS Hospital Srinagar are under three to four feet water.
Hundreds of people are trapped in Rajbagh near Crime branch Police in Government guest house and surrounding buildings and despite pleas of their relatives and friends the administration has not taken any step to evict them to safer places resulting into a brewing resentment among the masses against the Government. Sources said with flood waters proceeding towards low lying areas the administration has also red alerted the Baramulla, Ganderbal and Bandipora districts administration as the flood level is likely to increase in these two districts after it may recede in Anantnag, Pulwama and Srinagar districts.
