Eligibility compromised to appoint Prof SK Jain as VC SMVDU | | | Avinash Azad
Jammu, Sept 29: The appointment of Prof. SK Jain as Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra is allegedly illegal, as the norms of University Grants Commission (UGC) for appointment of Vice Chancellor were compromised by the selection committee headed by Dr S S Bloeria. According to official documents in the possession of Early Times, Prof Jain, has only four years experience as professor instead of minimum 10 years as laid by UGC as criteria for the post of VC. "The VC to be appointed should be a distinguished academician, with a minimum of 10 years of experience as Professor in a university system or 10 years of experience in the equivalent position in a reputed research and academic administrative organization", UGC's guide line read. SK Jain had started his career as academician after his appointment in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, on May 22, 1990 as Assistant Professor, read documents in possession of Early Times, adding that later, on August 1, 1997 he was appointed as Associate Professor at the same institute. The document further read that SK Jain on August 21, 2008 was appointed as Professor. The document makes clear that Prof Jain is still not eligible, for the post. Earlier, he was appointed by NN Vohra, Governor, who is Chancellor of the University on January, 25, 2013 from a panel of four recommended by a Search Committee headed by Dr. Sudhir S. Bloeria the then Vice Chancellor, Central University, Jammu. Sources told ET that the eligibility criteria was compromised by Dr Bloeria, the chairman of selection committee to appoint VC of SMVDU constituted by the Governor in the year 2012-13. Sources claimed that some officials in administration, who know that Prof Jain was ineligible for the post of VC and have documentary evidences, have been blackmailing the VC. They further alleged that Prof Jain hardly stays on the campus, as he leaves every Thursday or Friday for Delhi where his family is putting up and returns by Rajdhani train on Monday morning. "University working comes to a halt as important files remain pending for his approval" said a source. |
