Leh freezes as minimum temp dips further, improvement in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 27 : Leh witnessed coldest night of the season so far after the minimum temperature dropped further and settled at minus 2.5 degrees while weather records improvement in the Kashmir valley. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that light rain or thundershowers could occur at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. During the subsequent four days there could be isolated rain or thunders in the state. Met spokesman said Leh recorded coldest night after the mercury dipped to minus 2.5 degree, freezing partially water bodies near banks. However, the frozen parts melted as the day progressed. Due to open sky during the night, temperature drops in Leh, he said adding the weather will remain dry there during the next 24 hours with the result minimum temperature will drop further. However, he said, Kargil a border town on Srinagar-Leh national highway recorded 1.2 degree against yesterday's 0.6 degree. Met spokesman said the maximum and minimum temperatures could be around 11 degree and minus 3 degree at Leh during the next 24 hours. Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir, recorded lowest 1 degree minimum temperature in the valley followed by famed ski resort of Gulmarg 2.2 degree. After witnessing one degree above normal minimum temperature, people in the summer capital, Srinagar woke up to yet another sunny morning though icy cold winds continued. With sun out, the maximum temperature has improved in the city, where it was below normal during the past few days. Met spokesman said there is possibility of light rain or thundershowers during the next 24 hours when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 21 degree and 4 degree respectively. |
