BJP may surrender Habba Kadal seat to Saraf | Asks its leaders to look for allies | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 27: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir is all set to surrender the Habba Kadal seat in Srinagar constituency to the prominent Kashmiri Pandit leader Sanjay Saraf of Lok Jan Shakti Party. Sources told Early Times that the president of the LJP, Ram Villas Paswan, has discussed the matter with the BJP high command and has persuaded it to leave the seat for Saraf. Paswan, according to the sources, has told the BJP high command that Saraf during all these years has worked hard for people of the area and if the BJP fields its candidate it would divide the votes of displaced Kashmiri Pandits as most voters, in the Habba Kadal constituency which is presently represented by the National Conference senior leader Shamima Firdous, comprise of Kashmiri Pandits, a few still stay there while as most of the displaced members of the community exercise their franchise from other places. "The BJP high command has asked the Kashmir based leaders to look for allies with whom a tactical alliance can be formed ahead of polls so that even if they fail to win 44 seats alone they can take the support of the smaller parties and can form the next Government on their own," they said. However, Kashmir based leaders of the party have opposed the idea and they are suggesting that party should field its candidates from all the constituencies of the Kashmir region as people are yearning for a change and Modi wave can turn the tables on the opponents. The BJP President Amit Shah, according to the sources, has made it clear to party leaders, especially in Kashmir region, to work out a strategy which can pay dividends and not to interfere in the decisions which are taken at the party's highest level. "The party high command after holding threadbare discussions has come to a conclusion that overambitious plans can backfire and it's better to formulate a strategy which is workable," sources added. They said besides Habba Kadal, the BJP won't field its candidates in a few areas of north Kashmir, where the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone enjoys a good support. "The BJP leaders have held many meetings with Sajad Lone and if the BJP is able to turn the tables on National Conference and Congress in the Jammu region Peoples Conference can play a kingmaker's role in the next Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir," the sources added. |
