Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 27: With an eye on votes, National Conference (NC) has allegedly asked to its workers and campaigners to distribute relief material among their relatives and acquaintances in deluge hit Srinagar to invigorate them for the upcoming Assembly elections.
If sources are to believed, the relief material which includes free ration, bedding and clothing worth crores of rupees meant for thousands of families who lost their dwellings in devastating floods last month has been startlingly embezzled by the gross root workers of National Conference while the needy who are living a dispossessed life these days have been left in dire straits.
Sources confirmed 'Early Times' that block level activists of NC in many areas of summer capital which include Tengpora Bypass, Zakura, Ikhrajpora, Jawaharnagar, Rajbagh Kursoo, Zero bridge, Rawalpora, Mehjoor Nagar, Chinar Bagh, Channapora, Basant Bagh distributed free relief material among their relatives and personally known people to ensure votes are cast in favor of NC in forthcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held in December later this year.
Rajbagh, Jawaharnagar, Ikhrajpora, Zerobridge areas being worst hit of recent deluge that wrecked devastation in the Valley far and wide were deprived of the free relief by the Government as the top level workers of the local MLA in this area disbursed the same among their known people that too in the middle of the night.
Moreover a senior block level activist at Zakura which falls under the Assembly constituency of Hazratbal has reportedly unloaded ration and LPG trucks in his home lawn and when the people raised queries over this self-seeking act reacted sharply saying the stock has been sent from the outside state personally for him.
Despite the fact that the issue was accordingly brought into the notice of the top District administration official who also directed the police to look into it but no action has been taken against the influential activist so far. Activist has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Bhatt of Khwaja Bagh Zakura.
Besides, workers of former Minister of State for Home, Housing, Urban Development Department and Tourism Nasir Aslam Wani who is also MLA of Amira Kadal Assembly constituency have brashly violated the norms by distributing the huge chunk of relief among their known people.
The residents of these areas have expressed dismay over the disingenuous act of the leader saying people who were in dire need of help from the Government in this hour of crises in Kashmir specifically in Srinagar have been deprived of their rights. "Workers of the local MLA in Zero Bridge, Rajbagh, Ikhrajpora, Jawaharnagar, Radio Colony, and Chinar Bagh distributed relief material among their known people in the middle of the night. The aim to distribute free ration is to woo the voters to cast their votes in favor of NC," Sources said.
