Kashmiri separatists resume Hartal politics, annoy flood-hit Valleyites | | | ET Report SRINAGAR, Oct 27: Despite the fact that the devastating flood has broken the back of the people of the Valley, the separatists have resumed their 'hartali siyasat' to be felt around. But the people of the Valley seem to have made mind not to pay attention to these strike calls. Today's strike call was the second one within a week's time which evoked very poor response from the people as the shops were open in most parts of the Valley and the traffic plied as usual, almost on all the roots of the Valley giving heartburns to the separatists. People of the Valley say that it is not wise on part of the separatists to cause more inconveniences since they have been undone by the devastating floods. "By giving the strike calls the separatists create more problems for the people. People want to use the given time before the onset of the dreaded winter to revive their homes but these unwanted strike calls by the separatists pose serious difficulties," said Mohammad Saeed from Bemina, whose house has collapsed in the flood fury. It is the general belief of the people that these strike calls have no impact in the areas to which these separatist leaders belong. For them, as the people say, the tactics must work in the Srinagar so that they get highlighted in the media. These leaders have established shops in different corners of the city which has helped them to generate huge revenue, the people of the Valley believe. In Soibugh, the native village of Syed Salah-u-Din, the chairman of the United Jehad Council (UJC), things go on normally without even a least consideration for these strike calls, neither in the past nor today. When the people of this area are asked as to why they don't pay any attention to these strike calls, they come up with the answer "We have no likes for these strike calls since these people have the double standard who got the dear ones of the poor killed and their own ones are enjoying the ife of highest standard," said Shabir Ahmad from Soibugh. It is a common experience that schools run by the Jammat-e-Islami, have never observed strike calls given by the separatists, which clearly speaks volumes about its double standard. This organisation has most of the times supported the blackout calls on 27th October but one fails to understand why the schools run by it remain open and it is the main reason why people hold them in the bad books. Early Times found all the schools run by Jammat-e-Islami functioning normally on the day which it calls the blackest day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and it is enough to see the real face of the separatists. |
