JAMMU, Oct 27: Principal Government Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu Dr. Ghanshyam Dev has surrendered before a relative of the former Chief Minister of the State violating the set norms fixed by the First President and members of the Medical Faculty Club (MFC), GMC&H Jammu.
Dr. Tariq Azad, close relative of former Union Minister for Health and former CM of the state, who was appointed Secretary of the Medical Faculty Club clandestinely by Principal GMC&H without intimating the former Secretary of the Club Dr. Zahid Jeelani has now been projected as the Head of the Department (HoD) of nonexistent Emergency Medicine Department .
On the website of the GMC&H, Dr. Tariq Azad is shown as Professor of General Surgery whereas the order that confirmed induction of Dr. Tariq Azad as the new Secretary of the MFC with planned ouster of Dr. Zahid Jeelani indicates his position as HoD of Emergency Medicine Department.
The constitution of the Medical Faculty Club, a copy of which is in possession of Early Times, however, reads that the Secretary should be a person who should be the senior most professor next to the Principal of the Government Medical College but Tariq Azad is neither the senior most Professor nor Head of any Department and hence induction as the Secretary is skeptic.
Early Times also accessed a copy of the order with subject-"Conversion of newly constructed Guest House into Medical Faculty Club (MFC)" with reference number ME-GE-169/2010 dated 24-07-2010 of administrative department and order number GMC/PS/6/17FC/325 dated 02-08-2010. At the time of conversion of Government Guest House into MFC, there were five members of the Club including Dr. Yudhvir Gupta, Prof. & then Head, Pathology, Dr. Bharat Bhushan Gupta, Prof. and then Head Department of Medicine, Dr. Sudesh Sharma, Prof. Orthopedics, Dr. TR Raina, Prof. and then Head, Department of Blood Bank, Accounts Officer, GMC, Jammu and Dy. Director, Planning, GMC, Jammu.
The order indicates that of the six members, three are Head of the Department and one senior doctor and two other members including an Accounts Officer and Dy. Director Planning but Tariq Azad's induction is most questionable as he is neither senior most faculty nor he is Head of any Department, making it amply clear that his inclusion is merely the outcome of principal's surrender to his political background. |
