Srinagar, Oct 27: Even as assembly elections in the state are round the corner, steep rise in number of youth joining militant ranks and presence of militants of other parts of state in Kashmir is chopping down normalcy claims of the state government.
Reports received from credible sources reveal that in last three month's number of militants doubled in Kashmir after highly educated youth and in some cases government employees too were found joining militant ranks.
Besides some noted militants of Rajouri and Kalakot areas were also seen by forces at many places moving with local militants of Kashmir in double the number than what it was five or six months back.
Reports reveal that in South Kashmir's Pulwama and Shopian areas around 22 youth were found missing since August 12. They are believed to have joined militant ranks and also some noted militants of Rajouri areas have also switched over to Kashmir during the same period to disrupt upcoming assembly elections.
Pertinently with assembly elections round the corner, revelations regarding youth joining militant ranks speedily has triggered fears among voters and government employees likely to be posted on polling duty during upcoming assembly elections in the state.
Sources said that most of the youth missing in Shopian and Pulwama of the age group of 20 to 24 are believed to have joined LeT militant faction and are active with some noted militants of Kashmir who themselves are active in Kashmir from last five to six years, besides around 40 to 50 militants of different parts of state are active in Pulwama and Shopian Districts and the number is almost double the number what it was three months ago.
Sources revealed to early times that it is for the first time that besides some highly educated youth of Shopian and Pulwama have joined militant ranks, some youth who were government employees have also joined militant ranks.
One security official when asked about the reasons youth joining militant factions said that prevailing unemployment in most of the cases and motivation tactics by militants of Pakistan and Rajouri areas to join militant ranks is what has come to fore so far as the main reasons of youth joining militancy in Kashmir and added that new comers willing to join militant factions before joining are involved in a crime by snatching weapons of police officials which after joining militant factions with a weapon closes all options for such youth to backtrack immediately after joining.
Sources said the besides active militants it is believed that number of youth working as over ground workers (OGW) for militants may have also increased and if they could not be detained and guided on time may also join militancy actively in near future.
Pertinently in last three days two people one from Manloo village of Shopian and another a police man of Kulgam District were shot dead by suspected militants and amid fear and steep increase in number of youth joining militancy Election Commission of India three days back announced dates for assembly elections in the state.
