Ex-Cong Mayor predicts humiliating defeat for party in Assembly polls

JAMMU, Oct 27: Congress leader and ex-Mayor Narinder Singh has predicted humiliating defeat for Congress party in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
In an exclusive interview with Early Times, he said the party will not touch double figures in the Assembly polls.
He attacked "Sharma Brothers" for their alleged role in bringing contract system in Congress and levelled serious allegations against them. He also said that Lal's resignation was just to gain sympathy as he knew that Congress party will not do better in the coming elections.
"Why did he wait for six years to resign? This speaks about his double standards. He is shedding crocodile tears on the issue as 90 per cent of people who were not regularized are from his own constituency. He always remained and worked as a minister of Akhnoor constituency. His elder brother Madan Lal Sharma, his son Satish Sharma and their other relatives now want at least five to six tickets to contest in the coming Assembly elections," Narinder alleged.
He said there was a sort of family rule in the party. "The same thing happened in the central leadership and now it is in the state. Mangat Ram Sharma, who wants his son, his grandson and daughter-in-law to get tickets, has joined PDP," he added.
He accused Sham of allegedly purchasing water kits, which were being sold in the market for Rs 3,000 each, for Rs 7,500 each. "The chemicals he purchased for water testing were outdated. As a flood control minister, he failed miserably in controlling the floods," he alleged.
He said Sham was interested only in his constituency. "If Congress repeats old faces and ignores the grass-root level workers, it will not even touch double digits in coming assembly elections. People are fed up with these leaders as they have brought bad name to the party," Narinder said.
Tara Chand, deputy chief minister and minister for education, and his PRO Kewal were also allegedly involved in corruption cases. These facts were many times highlighted at different platforms. "Now when elections are announced, these leaders have become desperate to get tickets despite the fact that they have serious charges of corruption against them . These leaders are using pressure tactics just to ensure mandate for themselves and their close ones .This party has already seen the outcome of parliamentary elections where it failed to get even 50 seats and the same thing is going to happen in our state also," the Congress leader said.
He said Sham Lal Sharma, who advocates for Jammu chief minister, now projects himself as a probable candidate. "His brother Madan Lal Sharma, ex-MP, wants party mandate for himself and also for his son. So if they convince high command to get tickets for them and their relatives, they can naturally use pressure tactics to choose CM or deputy CM candidate in future, if any political formation takes places like PDP-Congress government or vice versa. Mangat Ram also pressurized initially but he failed in his mission so he joined PDP just to fulfill his lust for power and get his son and other relatives adjusted," Narinder alleged.
