Hectic parleys on within parties ahead of finalization of names for phase 1 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 27: Following announcement of the Assembly polls, hectic political activity is on within different political mainstream and regional parties here in the City of Temples ahead of final announcement of names of candidates of different political parties. Though National Conference (NC) and PDP have already finalized names of party candidates on majority of seats yet everyone is keenly waiting names of candidates representing Congress and the BJP these days while stirring up speculations in the air. On Tuesday the Election Commission is set to formally issue notification of Assembly polls for Phase-I beginning from November 25, the presumption will further go accelerated. As after the issuance of notification the political parties will have to finalize the names in the next 48 hours to give adequate time to the party candidates to file their nomination papers. According to inside reports the Congress party is discussing the names of probable party candidates to be fielded from the six Assembly seats in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts. It is still not clear whether former union Minister and Leader of Opposition in Upper House Ghulam Nabi Azad will throw his hat in the ring and lead the party campaign from the front to galvanize support of party cadre in the wake of upsurge in support of BJP. Here it needs to mention that six constituencies from Jammu are scheduled to go to polls along with four assembly segments of Ladakh and five seats of Kashmir valley in Phase 1. For the Congress party it is going to be a very crucial beginning as Congress had won five out of six assembly seats in 2008 polls and retaining all five seats is going to be a tough task for the grand old party particular when it is sailing against winds. Faction ridden Congress leaders are divided in two camps and leaders owing proximity to both these camps are shuttling from one place to other to get mandate of the party. J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz on Monday clarified the names of the party candidates would be announced soon as discussions were still going on. The BJP leaders are also brainstorming at the party headquarters to finalize the names of the BJP candidates for the first and the second phase of Assembly polls. A senior BJP leader on Monday claimed the names of the party candidates are most likely to be announced on October 29 after receiving the final nod of the screening committee of the party. |
