JKRF picks holes in purposed rehabilitation package ; asks Government, political parties to clear stand 10/27/2014 11:07:45 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 27: Welcoming the purposed rehabilitation package for PoJK refugees, Jammu and Kashmir Refugee Front (JKRF) members said that on the one hand government has no complete record of refugees, than to whom package would be given? Addressing media persons Om Prakash Khajuria said that in reply to an RTI application no PRO/2014-15/219 dated 24/07/2014, the office of Custodian Jammu explicitly maintained that 31619 refugees families were registered as per 32 nominal registers, which are in dilapidated condition and names were unable to read, and there is no record of PoK refugees available to this office. "If the record is not available to this office of Government then to whom package will be given. Moreover, registration list of refugees were not revised since 1947 but on the other hand registration of Kashmiri Pandit's migrated from Kashmir still continuously updated as new families added in the Government record." He further said that the package was completely silent over the 24 assembly seats freezed in J&K legislative assembly under J&K State Constitution and all the political parties should clear their position over this issue. Moreover in the last 65 years, refugee families have been multiplied and reached to lakhs. "Registration from a new end must be done and rehabilitation package should be given to each family unit according to new registration" he said. Addressing the media person K.L. Sudhan further maintained that package and announcement of government was also silent over 9500 families, which were deliberately dropped. "If such issues will not be addressed then this package will only be a poll plank and an eye wash only to garner votes in upcoming assembly elections" he said, adding all political parties should clear their stand over these issues, otherwise they are only presumed that they are playing dirty politics of vote bank on this serious issue.
