Baramulla, Dec 13: While condemning the killing of a Sarpanch in Sopore area of Baramulla district of Kashmir valley on Friday night, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) chairman, Shafiq Mir today stated that militants and other antidemocratic forces must read the writings on wall and shun the path of violence against the people of the state having opposite ideology.
In his reaction, Shafiq Mir who heads the Panchayat members body in the state of Jammu and Kashmir said that the militants got frustrated after the ongoing successful assembly elections in the state and they have started targeting the basic pillars of democracy in the state. It is pertinent to mention here that two Sarpanches have been killed in the state during the ongoing assembly elections. Earlier, a week ago, a Sarpanch namely Mohammad Sultan was killed in Shopian area of South Kashmir and in latest incident one more Sarpanch namely Ghulam Mohammad Mir (62) has been killed allegedly by the militants during the ensuing night of Friday and Saturday.
"They (militants) should realize that the people of the state have rejected their ideology and have proven their full faith in the democratic system. And we will not let them to kill our leaders any more we will raise a banner of revolt against them soon if they didn't stop attacks on our colleagues", said Mir. He said the Panchayat leaders of the state are not protected persons and they have become soft target for the militants . Holding the central government of India equally responsible for these killings, Shafiq Mir said reminded the present Home Minister of India Rajnath Singh of his earlier stand to speak about the security of Panchayat leaders in Jammu and Kashmir. He lamented despite he (Rajnath Singh) his holding the portfolio of Union Home Ministry till date nothing concrete has been done in this regard.
