Rain, snow tomorrow when polling will take place in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 13 : As polling will take place at 18 Assembly segments in Jammu and Kashmir in the fourth phase tomorrow, there could be rain or snow at a few places, including Srinagar. The minimum temperature has witnessed considerable improvement while the day has become cloudy, resulting in a drop in the maximum temperature. Improvement in night temperature was due to cloudy sky. A Met department spokesperson said here this afternoon that there could be light rain or snow at a few places over the state during the next 24 hours, including tomorrow when polling will be held in 18 Assembly segments, spread over Srinagar, Anantnag, Shopian and Samba districts. He said there would be on increase in precipitation from the evening of December 15. People woke up to a cloudy morning after improvement in the night temperature, which remained below normal for the past about one week. Met spokesman said Kupwara with minus 3.1 degree minimum temperature was colder than Pahalgam and Gulmarg, where it was minus three degrees, which was, however, warmer than yesterday. In summer capital Srinagar, where eight seats are going to polls tomorrow, the minimum temperature was recorded at 0.5 degrees against yesterday's minus 2.9 degrees. The coldest so far was recorded at minus 4.4 degrees on December 11. The spokesman said there could be light rain or snow and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around eight degrees and one degrees, respectively tomorrow in Srinagar. Kupwara, a frontier district in north Kashmir, recorded minus 3.1 degrees which was 0.4 degrees warmer than yesterday when it was minus 3.5 degrees. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam recorded minus three degrees minimum temperature, which was two and one degree below normal respectively. However, it was up by a notch in Gulmarg, where it was minus 4.3 degrees yesterday. The coldest night of the season so far was recorded at Pahalgam at minus 6.3 degrees and Gulmarg at minus 5.5 degrees on December 11. Qazigund and Kokernag also witnessed improvement in the minimum temperature. People in Leh and Kargil continued to shiver as the minimum temperature remained below freezing point. At Leh, it was mius 9.4 degrees against yesterday's minus 9.1 degrees and Kargil minus 10.2 degrees against yesterdays minus 12.5 degrees, he said. The Spokesman said light rain or snow could occur at Leh tomorrow and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around six and minus eight degrees, respectively. |
