Srinagar, Dec 13 : Massive protests broke out in Hygam Sopore against the killing of a sarpanch by unidentified gunmen while Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded a probe into the incident. Hundreds of people, including women, took to the streets protesting against the unidentified gunmen who killed the sarpanch Ghulam Mohammad Bedar, after kidnapping him from his Hygam, Sopore residence last night. The demonstrators blocked the main road and raised slogans against the killer. Meanwhile, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also strongly condemned the killing. In a statement, a party spokesman said re-occurrence of such dastardly incidents is unfortunate and these are no way solution to our problems. Terming the incident an act of extreme cowardice, he said innocent killings have no place in a civilised society. "Such killings bear no fruit but tragedies," he said. He expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and demanded a thorough probe into the incident. |
