Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 13: Stating that he has resolved to vociferously highlight the grievances and genuine needs of the people from Jammu east in the legislature, if elected, the Congress candidate from the constituency, Vikram Malhotra today said he will also strive for strengthening the concept of local self governance. He added that to raise the issues of holding of polls to the urban local bodies besides strengthening of the panchayats were also included among his agenda.
The state Congress general secretary said this during his door-to-door campaign in the localities of Kanji House, Peer Mitha, Gujjar Nagar and other areas. Malhotra also addressed a public meet at Gujjar Nagar. Senior Congress leaders from various parts of Haryana and Punjab were also present and campaigned for Malhotra.
They included: Ashok Tanvar (ex MP Sirsa, Haryana), Amrinder Singh Raja Warring (MLA from Gidderbaha and general secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee), Sanjay Khokhar (ex-youth Congress president Haryana), Chandan Yadav (ex-youth Congress president Bihar) and Surinder Singh (corporator from Gurgaon).
Speaking on the occasion, Malhotra said that he was committed to work for an atmosphere of brotherhood, peace and prosperity among the three regions of the State.
He asked the voters to vote for those whom they believe have progressive agenda and not those who are in electoral arena only to spread divisive policies for their vested interests.
Further saying that he was contesting the election on development plank, Malhotra appealed for the support of the people so that the development of the constituency could be taken to new heights.
Malhotra also said that playing with the sentiments of the masses through religious exploitation is the only agenda of parties like BJP and National Conference while parties like PDP were befooling the masses with hollow slogans. He added none of these parties and neither their candidates have any proven credentials and a track record, as they have been playing politics of exploitation on the basis of religion, region and hollow sloganeering.
