Cong sarpanch shot dead at Hygam

BARAMULLA, Dec 13: Ahead of fourth phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, former Congress Sarpanch was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Hygam area of Sopore town in Baramulla district of North Kashmir today morning.
According to sources that, “eight to nine unidentified gunmen barged inside the house of Ghulam Mohammad Mir alias Bedar 61, S/O Mohammad Ibrahim Mir R/O Hygam Sopore at 8:31 pm on Friday evening.
A large number of people including women came on roads and strongly protested against the killing of Sarpanch, sources informed.
Second elder daughter of the deceased Illahi Bedar told Early Times that, “on Friday evening, some unknown people knocked the main gate of the house, after which my mother came out and shouted who is there, suddenly two clean shaved men jumped from the gate into our lawn.
“At least there were eight to nine clean shaved unidentified gunmen, who told us that, “ we heard there are some guest and we have to search your whole house after which we were very much panic, Illahi said.
He said that these unidentified gunmen questioned my father and said what are you doing, in a reply the deceased said that, “I am a social servant” after which unidentified gunmen took him away with them.
We pleaded in front of them but they didn't listen to us, even though we told them that he is not affiliated with any political party, according to her that after the abduction we contacted the near and dear ones about the incident, after half an hour Jammu and Kashmir police, and Army came to our house and cordoned off the whole area, searches were carried out, but all in vain, she added.
The deceased has five daughters only among which two are married in Srinagar and Bangalore and other three are perusing the studies from local schools in the area.
A senior official told early times that, “Today morning the body of the village-head, who had received bullet injury in the head and abdomen, was found in Shalbagh orchards near Hygam.
However official added that, First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged vide no 191/2014, 364, 7/25 under (RPC) for abduction, 302 for Murder dated 13/12/2014, and police is investigating the matter thoroughly, and will nab the killers soon.
Meanwhile It is pertinent to mention here that two Sarpanchs have been killed in the state during the ongoing assembly elections, a Sarpanch Mohammad Sultan was killed on week ago in Shopian area of South Kashmir and then after one more Sarpanch namely Ghulam Mohammad Mir alias Bedar of Hygam Sopore has been killed during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday in north Kashmir.
