Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 13: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference today said militants should realise that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected their ideology and have proven their full faith in the democracy.
"They (militants) should realise that the people of the state have rejected their ideology and have proven their full faith in the democratic system," AJKPC Chairman Shafiq Mir said in a statement here.
While condemning the killing of a Sarpanch in Sopore area of Baramullah district of Kashmir Valley last night, Mir said militants and other anti-democratic forces must read the writings on wall and shun the path of violence against the people of the state having opposite ideology.
"We will not let them to kill our leaders any more, we will raise a banner of revolt against them soon if they didn't stop attacks on our leaders," he said, adding that panchayat leaders of the state are not protected and they have become soft target for the militants.
Mir, who heads the panchayat members body in Jammu and Kashmir, said the militants got frustrated after the ongoing successful assembly elections in the state and they have started targeting the basic pillars of democracy in the state. Two Sarpanches have been killed in the state during the ongoing assembly elections.
Taking a strong note of attacks on panchayat leaders in the state, Mir said militants have started targeting panchayat leaders again in the state holding them responsible for the successful elections and mobilising the people in election process.
Holding the Central government equally responsible for these killings, he said the present BJP government seems least concerned about the safety of panchaayat leaders of the state.
