Selected Law Deptt lobby seeks police intervention for exams | JU Professors manhandled | | Bivek Mathur Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 22: Following manhandling of two teachers of Jammu University by students of Law Department while they were appearing for a departmental exam, a selected lobby of Professors of the department had called on Vice Chancellor Prof. R.D. Sharma demanding intervention of police and flying squad for conduction of exams. As per sources, those selected professors who had approached Vice Chancellor R.D. Sharma in his chamber on December 2 were Head of the Department (HoD), Law Department Prof. Kulwant Singh, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Satwinder Kumar, Dr. Manju Jamwal, Dr. Savitri Nayar, Arti Sharma, Dr. Vijay Sehgal and Raj Kumar. Sources further said that these selected Professors of Law Department highlighted the issue of manhandling of two Professors namely Dr. Savita Nayar and Dr. Manju Jamwal by one student namely Dilawar Khan in the exam center before the Vice Chancellor and Controller Examination and sought help of police and flying squad for conduction of exams in the law department giving justification that the JU security is not competent enough to control such students who usually create disruption in exam centers. Further it was demanded that on the requests of students earlier made to the Vice Chancellor, inter-semester moot court/debating competition/ essay writing competitions should be held in the department and proper training be imparted to the students for the same. Prof. Kulwant Singh, Head of the Department (HoD), Law Department was when contacted about the same admitted that a student namely Dilawar Khan had manhandled two professors of the department and said that a request was made before the Controller of the examination and Vice-Chancellor for seeking police and flying squad help as and when required to control such incidents in the exam centers. Singh also justified that there are just 30 plus JU security personnel but as per sources; there are 100 plus JU security personnel whose role to control these activities in the varsity premises is under the scanner. |
