SOPs should be strictly adhered to avoid tragedies: ANC

Jammu, June 24: Expressing deep sorrow and anguish over the loss of precious human lives in Police firing, ANC Provincial President, S. Gian Singh has said that while it is the responsibility of the police to maintain law and order, but at the same time Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) should be strictly adhered to avoid such tragedies during public protests. According to press release, Singh further said that the police and other security forces should exercise maximum restraint while dealing with public protests to avoid causing any physical harm to civilians.
Conveying his heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased, in Domana Singh prayed for peace to the departed soul.
He demanded that Government should take all possible measures to ensure that peace is maintained in Jammu region. The incident of firing by police is unfortunate and needs detailed magisterial enquiry to be held in the matter to indicate circumstances leading to unfortunate incident and the persons involved in it so that strict action under law can be taken against them,
Singh also condemned that the attack on Greater Kashmir Senior Editor Javaid Malik by the personal security of PDP leader and Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone (Hanjura) demanded enquiry into the whole episode.
Expressing solidarity with the media fraternity, Singh said that we are with the media fraternity and the victim and support their demand for justice. He said that this could happen with a prominent journalist what would be the treatment to a common citizen?
